Chess in the ancient world - Pre-1450

Chess is one of the most enduring and popular games in the history of mankind. The first written mention of the chess game is found in the Persian documents from the fifth century AD. Early Persian References to the game seem to indicate that it was invented in India. The Persian poet Firdausi wrote of an Indian king called Gav, who is using it to replay past battles.
